La Biblioteca Civica di Casarsa e il Centro Studi Pasolini
. in Casarsa della Delizia The home of Pier Paolo Pasolini, as the building is generally called, is in actual fact his mother’s home. The building had already been constructed by the first half of the nineteenth century but the structure was completely different to the present one. The changes to the original structure of the Colùs or Colussi house were carried out in the early twentieth century but it was later seriously damaged in an air raid on 5th March 1945 only to be restructured in the immediate post war period. The home of Pasolini’s maternal grandparents played an extremely important and significant role in his life during the decisive years of his social, cultural and political experiences. Paying frequent visits to the house enabled the poet to establish a good rapport with the high, middle-class and country folk because of his academic background. Due to his father Carlo Alberto’s economic difficulties Pasolini spent a whole year in Casarsa for the first time during the scholastic year 1928-1929. Then, from 1933 onwards, young Pasolini spent the summer holidays with his mother and Guido Alberto, his brother. In the summer of 1043, while his father was being held as a prisoner of war in Kenya, Susanna and her sons decided to move to Casarsa definitively, for fear of the bombardments which were taking place in Bologna, the city they were living in, at the time. In 1950 Pier Paolo, persecuted by the accusations of obscene acts in his regards, fled to Rome with his mother Susanna. In the years that followed, up until his death in 1975, Pasolini occasionally appeared in Casarsa, to call on his parents, and was at times seen in the company of some important personalities such as Maria Callas. In 1993 The Provincial Administration of Pordenone purchased the Colussi House with subsidies which it had received from the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and carried out extraordinary maintenance works, which were completed in 1999, resulting in the complete restoration of the main building. This restoration included the redesigning of the external garden, the rooms of the Academiuta di Lenga Friulana and the creation of a modern structure adjacent to the main one. In 1994 the Provincial Administration of Pordenone and the Casarsa della Delizia Town Council had already stipulated an agreement of collaboration, which has now been renewed and integrated, giving rise to “The Pier Paolo Pasolini Study Centre”, developing other initiatives with regards to the figure and work of the poet. The Study Centre has a rich collection of original material, among which “Quaderni Rossi” and “Poesie a Casarsa” the theatrical representation in Friulano “I Turcs tal Friul” and in general the complex poetic productions of the Casarsese Period, undoubtedly of interest to the many keen and studious. Furthermore, the first editions of these works, from “Poesie a Casarsa”, to “Stroligut”, and all the other publications of the successive years can also be found. Finally, of notable value, is the complete filmography together with other interesting documented film clips, Italian press articles on Pasolini collected up to date, Tesi’s works which participated in the various editions of “Premio Nazionale Tesi di Laurea Pasolini” (National Prize for the Pier Pasolini graduation thesis). The ground floor hosts a permanent exhibition which is divided into rooms which represent different themes and depict Pasolini’s versatile interests. One can admire the paintings and India ink drawings which he realized during his years of permanence in Casarsa and the political posters which used to be placed on the walls under the old Communal Open Arcade of San Giovanni. Finally, a section which is full of photographs of Pasolini and his family and another section dedicated to the pedagogic and literary activities of the Friulian years, with illustrations of the most popular local spots largely mentioned in the Pasolini’s lyrics and prose, such as Versutta, the old church of Santa Croce, Li Fondis, The cemetery of Casarsa, The river Tagliamento and the neighbouring towns, completes the exhibition. The exhibition planning and
organising was handled by Arch. Massimiliano Pavon, the texts and scientific
consulting by Professor Giuseppe Mariuz with the collaboration and
co-ordination of the Cultural Association of the city of Casarsa della
Delizia and the Cultural Association of the Provincial Administration of
Pordenone.
